Picking a Senior Portrait Photographer

Senior Portraits

Selecting a photographer for your senior portraits can be a daunting task. With so many options to choose from, it can be hard to know where to start. But don't worry, with a little bit of research and a few key considerations, you'll be able to find the perfect photographer to capture your unique personality and style.

Senior portraits are a rite of passage for high school students and an opportunity to capture your unique personality and style. Whether you're into fashion, sports, or the arts, there are countless ways to make your senior portraits truly reflect who you are.

One way to make your senior portraits fun is to choose a location that is meaningful to you. Maybe it's your favorite park, the spot where you had your first kiss, or the field where you play your sport. The location you choose can add a personal touch to your portraits and make them even more special.

Another way to make your senior portraits reflect your personality is to choose outfits that express your style. Whether you prefer a classic look or something more trendy, there are endless options to choose from. You can even mix and match different pieces to create a unique look that truly represents you.

If you're into fashion, you can also use your senior portraits as an opportunity to showcase your favorite designer or brand. You can even incorporate accessories such as jewelry, bags, and shoes to complete your look.

If you're into sports or other activities, you can also incorporate those into your senior portraits. For example, if you're a soccer player, you can have a portrait taken with your soccer ball or in your team uniform. If you're into music, you can have a portrait taken with your instrument or in a music themed setting.

Finally, you can make your senior portraits truly unique by adding a special touch to them. This can be anything from a prop that represents your personality or interests, to a special quote or message that reflects your values or aspirations.

In summary, senior portraits are an opportunity to capture your personality and style, and to make them as fun and unique as you are. Whether you're into fashion, sports, or the arts, there are countless ways to make your senior portraits truly reflect who you are.

So how do I choose? Here a few tips on selecting your Senior Photographer:

Look at Portfolios: The first thing you should do when selecting a photographer is to look at their portfolios. This will give you an idea of the photographer's style, their attention to detail, and the quality of their work. Look for portfolios that feature a variety of poses, locations, and lighting styles.

Ask around: This may seem strange, but if you see photos in their portfolio of friends or classmates, ask them how their experience was. Did they have fun, did they get the images they were hoping for, did the photographer listen and style a shoot just for them? These are all really important considerations.

Consider Locations: Make sure your photographer has a selection of locations that meet your style. I maintain a "list" of 18 to 20 locations around the area that can be used to match almost any style. That said, since every shoot is custom styled, I will scout and discuss any location you have in mind. Location can be very important in the overall styling of your session.

Meet the Photographer: Before you make a final decision, it's important to meet with the photographer in person. This will give you the opportunity to ask questions, discuss your vision for your senior portraits, and get a sense of the photographer's personality and approach. I insist on an initial consultation to get to know you a little and understand your vision for your session. This is critical in capturing your personality in your portraits.

By considering these factors, you'll be able to find a photographer who can capture your unique personality and style and create beautiful, lasting memories of your senior year.
